Ladybugs Must Render You Catatonic

On May 2, 1983, a baby is born to Mary and John Winchester. They name him Samuel.

On the night that Sam turns six months old, after all the lights are turned out, a demon returns to make good on a deal a desperate woman had made a decade prior. This same woman dies in a fire that very night, pinned to the ceiling, and her family is left broken.

And so, Sam grows up.

Sam is eight when he finally asks the right question, and learns that the monsters under his bed are all too real.

Sam is fifteen when he meets a girl, a monster, in whom he finds a kindred spirit.

Sam is eighteen when he finally leaves home, seizing the opportunity for a future he never thought he could have and taking pieces of his brother that would always belong to him.

Sam is twenty two when that future burns, turned to ashes along with the body of a woman he planned on marrying.

Sam is twenty two when he sets out on the road with a brother he never stopped loving, with rock music playing in the background and a wicked grin in the driver’s seat.

Sam is.

Sam is single-minded rage and unwavering hope.
Sam is ‘get this’ and research and salads and a constant presence in the passenger’s seat.
Sam is Lucifer’s vessel and Azazel’s psychic child. He is also a man who refuses to be defined and ruled by those things.
Sam is a hero and a martyr and a killer.
Sam is not a chubby twelve year. Except for how he totally is, but only to an older brother in a leather jacket.
Sam is every great failure and every fantastic success.

Today, Sam is twenty nine years old.
